Joe Esposito has demonstrated a strong background in information security and cybersecurity throughout their career. Starting in 2009, they worked as an Information Security Co-op at Perdue Farms Inc. Joe then moved on to Deloitte + Touche LLP as an Information Security Engineer in 2012. In 2013, they joined the Institute for Defense Analyses as a Cyber Security Analyst. From 2014 to 2020, Joe served as the Chief Information Security Officer at the Office of Inspector General at USDA, where they achieved significant accomplishments such as creating a Security Operations Center and enhancing company culture. In 2020, they took on the role of CEO at Derfel Security LLC, a small business consulting firm that focuses on tailoring cybersecurity requirements to customer needs. Furthermore, Joe currently works as the Chief Information Security Officer at Wellpath, a 2-billion-dollar healthcare company, where they are responsible for managing IT risk and implementing various cybersecurity initiatives.
Joe Esposito earned a Bachelor of Science in Dual Degree Information Systems and Management from Salisbury University in 2011. Joe then pursued a Masters in Secure Information Systems from George Mason University in 2014 and completed it in 2015 with a field of study in Cyber Security Management Leadership. Joe also obtained multiple certifications including Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) from ISACA in 2019, Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) from (ISC)² in 2018, PMP from the Project Management Institute in 2015, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) from e-Council Inc. in 2014, Certified Information Systems Professional (CISSP) from ISC2 in 2013, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) from Cisco in 2013, Network+ (Net+) from CompTIA in 2012, and Security+ (Sec+) from CompTIA in 2012.
