Principal Scientist, Protein Engineering at Werewolf Therapeutics

Tiziana Cafarelli, PhD has a wealth of experience in the field of research. Tiziana began their career in 2004 as an Intern in the Office of Research Compliance at Harvard Medical School. In 2005 and 2006, they held two Research Intern positions at Biogen in Immunology. From 2007 to 2014, they were a Laboratory Instructor, Post-doctoral Research Fellow, Research Mentor, and Graduate Research Assistant at Northeastern University. Here, they mapped surfaces of interaction for a regulatory binary complex containing DNA damage proteins of Escherichia coli, identified candidate amino acid residues predicted to disrupt binary complex formation, examined binary complex formation under native conditions, and attempted to determine the stoichiometry of protein complexes. From 2014 to 2018, they were a Research Fellow at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's Vidal Lab, Center for Cancer Systems Biology (CCSB) in Cancer Biology. Here, they performed the first high-throughput screen to identify protein-protein interactions involving proto-genes in S. cerevisiae. In 2018, they joined POTENZA Therapeutics as a Scientist in Antibody Discovery, where they supported several immuno-oncology drug discovery programs by producing, screening, and characterizing proteins, including antibodies and antigens. Tiziana also developed and optimized cell-based assays to assess antibody binding and function, and generated stable cell lines for functional assays. Finally, in 2019, they joined Werewolf Therapeutics as a Senior Scientist in Protein Engineering and a Scientist.

Tiziana Cafarelli, PhD obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Molecular Microbiology from Northeastern University in 2013. Tiziana completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) in Biology from Tufts University in 2007.
