Maria Geller has worked in the software engineering field since 2011. Maria began their career as a Software Developer for GAUFF Engineering, where they developed an applicant administration application. In 2011, they took an internship as a Software Developer for SAP, where they explored new technologies for the research department. From 2012 to 2013, they worked as a Research Assistant at the Hasso-Plattner-Institute, where they developed a test suite following Behavior-Driven Development. Maria then worked as a PHP Developer for Online Republic from 2013 to 2014. From 2014 to 2018, they worked as an Application Engineer for LiveOps, developing an internal testing framework and a phone panel web application. In 2015, they were a Google Summer of Code Student for Clojure, working on the ClojureScript compiler. From 2018 to 2021, they worked as a Software Engineer and Team and Tech Lead at Pitch, leading a team of 4-6 people to work on the templating and style system for presentations. Currently, they are a Senior Software Engineer at Whimsical.

Maria Geller obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in IT-Systems Engineering from the Hasso-Plattner-Institute between 2009 and 2012. Maria then went on to pursue a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology, graduating in 2018. Additionally, Maria has obtained three Coursera Verified Certificates: Internet Theirtory, Technology, and Security (August 2013), Functional Programming Principles in Scala (May 2013), and Programming Languages (March 2013).
