John Johnson Ph.D. serves as the Vice President for Inclusive Excellence at Whitman College since June 2021. Prior to this role, John Johnson held several leadership positions in higher education, including Director of Inclusive Excellence Learning and Director of Centers for Diversity and Inclusion at California State University-Sacramento, where responsibilities included overseeing various resource centers to promote inclusivity. As the founding coordinator of the African American Center for Academic Excellence at Humboldt State University, John Johnson established a vital resource for students based on principles of cultural wealth. Experience also includes roles such as Assistant Professor and Department Chair at Edward Waters College, Director of the Institute of Black Culture at the University of Florida, and Program Coordinator at UC Merced, focusing on support for underrepresented students. Education includes a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, an MA in Educational Psychology from Ball State University, and a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Penn State University.
