Deseray Rivas

Deseray Rivas has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and organizations. Deseray is currently working as the Associate Director of Career Coaching, Professional Marketing, and Branding at Whittier College since October 2021. In 2023, Deseray is planning to join Gallup as a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach.

Prior to these roles, Deseray worked at Communities In Schools of Los Angeles (CISLA) as a Program Manager from August 2020 to January 2021, and as a Site Director from January 2021 to October 2021. Deseray also had a significant tenure at City Year, where they held multiple positions including Senior Regional Recruitment Manager from January 2020 to July 2020, National Equity Council Co-chair from March 2019 to July 2020, Regional Recruitment Manager from May 2018 to January 2020, Impact Summercharger, Content Operations Coordinator from May 2019 to July 2019, and Program Manager from January 2015 to April 2018.

Further in their career, Deseray worked as a Site Coordinator at THINK Together from April 2012 to January 2015, and as a PALS Assistant at HLPUSD from September 2009 to April 2010. Deseray's earliest known position was as a Program Leader at Think Together from an unspecified date in 2005 to 2008.

Deseray Rivas has gained a wealth of experience in various roles and organizations, particularly in program management, recruitment, coaching, and education.

Deseray Rivas obtained a Master's degree in Equity, Education and Social Justice from California State University, Long Beach from 2023 to 2026. Prior to that, they earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Chicana/o Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara from 2008 to 2010. Deseray also attended Rio Hondo College from 2005 to 2008, majoring in Chicana/o Studies. In terms of additional certifications, Deseray completed the 2021 Certified CCEJ illume: Restorative Culture Shift Institute Practitioner program offered by The California Conference for Equality and Justice (CCEJ). Deseray also received training in Adaptive Schools Foundation, Community Building through Restorative Practice, Socio-Emotional Development Theory from The PEAR Institute: Partnerships in Education and Resilience, and Working with Childhood Trauma from Echo (Center for Nonviolent Education and Parenting).
