Julia Kirkwood is an experienced professional in environmental management and conservation, currently serving as Watershed Project Administrator and Lake Stewardship Manager at the MI Dept of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy since January 2002. In this role, Julia collaborates with various organizations and agencies to restore and protect inland lakes and rivers from nonpoint source pollution, overseeing grants aimed at achieving specific water quality goals. Additionally, Julia has been a Conservation Certification Reviewer for the Wildlife Habitat Council since June 2019, assessing habitat conservation projects by corporations in the U.S. and Canada. Previous positions include Landscape Consultant/Designer for Michigan Native Backyards, Environmental Science Specialist at Kalamazoo Nature Center, and various roles focused on environmental education and outreach. Julia holds a BS in Fisheries and Wildlife from Michigan State University and a certificate from the Great Lakes Leadership Academy.
