Juan Carlos Garcia Castro

Juan Carlos Garcia Castro has extensive experience in the maritime industry. Juan Carlos started their career in 1999 as a Maritime Logistics Consultant for Ership/Holcim Trading, where they developed efficient ship planning for Holcim Venezuela's Cement terminals and provided consultancy on port facilities in the Caribbean area. Juan Carlos then worked at Ership from 2001 to 2011, taking on roles such as Designated Person Ashore ISM Code and Company Security Officer ISPS Code. In this position, they were responsible for implementing and monitoring the ISM and ISPS Codes on board cement carriers and conducting internal safety and security audits. From 2011 to 2014, Juan Carlos worked at KGJS as the SEQ Manager/DPA and CSO Cement. Here, they developed and implemented safety, security, environment, and quality management systems for a fleet of 22 Cement Carriers. Juan Carlos also conducted safety, security, and technical audits on board the fleet and focused on developing a safety culture through training programs. Currently, they are working at Wilson ASA as the QA Superintendent/Deputy DPA & CSO since 2014, where they support the development of the safety management system, follows up on international, regional, and local rules and regulations, conducts internal audits on vessels, and contributes to risk identification and assessments of shipboard operations.

Juan Carlos Garcia Castro completed their Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Nautical Studies with a major in Engineering and became a Merchant Marine Officer at the Nautical School of Venezuela in Caracas, Venezuela, from 1990 to 1994. Juan Carlos then pursued a Master of Science (MSc) in International Shipping at the University of Plymouth in 1997-1998. In 1996, they obtained a Diplome d'études en langue Française from the Université de Bourgogne in Dijon, France. Prior to that, in 1995-1996, Juan Carlos studied English as a Second Language, IELTS, TOEFL at Anglo World Education in Bournemouth, UK.
