Joel Emans

Joel Emans has a diverse work experience in the legal field. Joel is currently working as the VP of Legal for Wizards of the Coast and Digital Games since June 2022. Prior to this, they served as an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Washington School of Law starting from March 2017. Joel also held multiple positions at The Pokémon Company International, including Associate General Counsel/Director of Legal Services, Assistant General Counsel, and Attorney, where they led legal teams, handled strategic entertainment deal-making, and provided legal support for various business units. Before joining The Pokémon Company International, they worked as an Associate at Hughes Media Law Group, providing legal services to entertainment and technology clients. Prior to that, Joel had their own legal consulting firm called Emans Legal Consulting. Joel also worked as a Legal Consultant/Project Manager at the University of Washington School of Law Entrepreneurial Law Clinic and as a Research Specialist at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Joel started their career as a Legal/Finance Writer at Fortent, Inc and as a Legal Assistant at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP. Overall, Joel Emans has gained extensive experience in legal advisory, strategic planning, team management, and deal-making throughout their career.

Joel Emans attended South Kitsap High School from 1998 to 2001. Joel then pursued their undergraduate education at the University of Washington from 2003 to 2005, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) degree in Political Science and International Relations. Later, from 2007 to 2010, they attended the University of Washington School of Law, where they obtained a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree with a focus on Business & International Law.
