Chris Fearne has held various significant positions in health and political sectors, currently serving as President of the World Health Assembly with the World Health Organization since May 2023. Since March 2013, Chris Fearne has been the Deputy Leader for Parliamentary Affairs and a Member of Parliament for the Labour Party. Academic contributions include a long-standing role as a lecturer at the University of Malta's Medical School since 1999. Previous governmental roles include Parliamentary Secretary for Health from April 2014 to April 2016 and Chairman of the Foreign and European Affairs Committee and OSCE Parliamentary Assembly from April 2013 to May 2014. As a consultant paediatric surgeon at Mater Dei Hospital, Chris Fearne served from May 1999 to April 2014, alongside leadership in NGOs advocating for children's rights. Chris Fearne also held the role of Director at the Malta Institute for Medical Education from January 2008 to August 2011. Educational qualifications include an MD FRCS from the University of Malta and FRCS in Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
