Monica Irvine's work experience includes positions at various organizations. Monica started their career as a Devolution Project Intern at the National Association of Child Advocates in 1998. In 1999, they worked as a Law School Fellow at the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Children and Families and also as a Student Advocate at the Georgetown University Law Center Federal Legislation Clinic. Monica then joined Nixon Peabody as a Summer Associate in 1999 and later became an Associate from 2000 to 2003. Monica joined the World Wildlife Fund in 2003 and held several roles, including Associate General Counsel, Associate General Counsel and Director of Risk Management, and VP and Deputy General Counsel. Their latest role at the World Wildlife Fund started in June 2019.

Monica attended Fort Collins High School from 1990 to 1993. Afterward, they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science at the University of Colorado Boulder from 1993 to 1997. Following their undergraduate studies, Monica Irvine attended Georgetown University Law Center from 1997 to 2000, where they obtained their Juris Doctor (JD) degree in Law.

In addition to their formal education, Monica Irvine obtained a certification in the CSIS Women's Global Leadership Program from CSIS in September 2021.
