Michael Thornton has a diverse work experience starting in 1997 with PPB as a manager. Michael then worked as a manager at KPMG Australia from 2001 to 2004, where they focused on monitoring mining services companies and restructuring projects.

From 2004 to 2008, Michael worked at KPMG UK as a director in Transaction Advisory Services, specializing in property company buy-side transactions and equity fundraising.

Michael then joined Deloitte Australia in 2008 as a director, where they were responsible for client management and restructuring activities.

In 2012, they moved to Western Power and held various roles, including Credit Risk Manager, Senior Corporate Finance Specialist, Revenue Manager, Business Lead Advanced Meter Infrastructure, and A/Head of Finance and Metering. Michael played a key role in the finance and metering function and led strategic projects within the company.

Most recently, Michael is the Chief Financial Officer at Wrays | Intellectual Property, a position they assumed in 2023.

Michael Thornton has a diverse education history. Michael obtained a Bachelor's degree in Business Economic and Social Studies with a focus on Finance from Trinity College Dublin in 1992. Michael went on to become a Chartered Accountant, earning their certification from Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand in 2001 and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ireland in 1995. In 2014, they completed a Diploma of Professional Coaching in Career Coaching from AIM WA. Additionally, they have pursued various courses in different areas such as Safety and Health Representatives, Applied Project Management, Effective Communication, Think on Your Feet, and Leadership. In 1992, they also became a Fellow of the Institute Of Chartered Accountants of Ireland.
