Mark Shapiro

Mark Shapiro has a diverse work experience with expertise in management consulting and operational leadership in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry. Mark is currently the Chief Operating Officer at xCures since August 2021. Prior to that, they served as the Vice President of Clinical Development at xCures from January 2019 to July 2021. Before joining xCures, Mark worked at Pharma Initiatives as a Partner, where they specialized in growth strategies, business transformation, and operational excellence within clinical research and development. From April 2017 to April 2018, they held the role of Senior Vice President Operations (Americas, Europe and Middle East) at Clinipace Worldwide. Mark also has experience as the Vice President of Clinical Development and the Executive Director of Clinical Development at Clinipace Worldwide. Mark began their career as an Associate Practice Executive at Campbell Alliance in 2006 and as an Instructor at Pharmaceutical Institute in 2007. Mark has also worked at Duke Clinical Research Institute, PPD, Rho, Inc., Boston University School of Medicine, and Boston University Department of Biomedical Engineering in various roles earlier in their career.

Mark Shapiro started their education in 1992 at Virginia Tech, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry in 1996. Mark then pursued further education at Boston University School of Medicine, earning a Master's degree in Pharmacology from 1996 to 1999. Following this, from 1999 to 2000, Mark worked towards a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biomolecular Pharmacology at Boston University School of Medicine.

In 2005, Mark Shapiro attended Duke University - The Fuqua School of Business, where they completed a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with concentrations in Marketing and Finance in 2006.
