Doran Avivi has a diverse range of work experience in engineering and research roles in the medical field. Doran currently serves as an Engineering Manager at Xpan Inc., where they have been working since 2021. In this role, they are responsible for managing the engineering team.
Prior to their current position, Doran worked as an R&D/Process Engineer at Xpan Inc. from 2021 to 2022. In this role, they led technical projects to commercialize a surgical instrument used in laparoscopic surgeries, resolved process and manufacturing issues, and drafted design verification and validation protocols.
Before joining Xpan Inc., Doran worked as a Process Engineer at Baylis Medical from 2021 to 2021. Doran also served as a Research and Development Engineer at Baylis Medical from 2016 to 2021. In these roles, they focused on the design and development of medical devices, specifically steerable sheath technologies, and ensured compliance with medical device regulations.
Additionally, Doran worked as a Research and Development Engineer at Anchor Orthopedics from 2016 to 2019, where they contributed to the research and development of orthopedic devices.
Doran also gained research experience as a Graduate Research Assistant at Western University from 2014 to 2016. In this role, they designed and validated a surgical tool for minimally-invasive lung tumor localization. Doran also acquired knowledge in embedded controls and serial communication.
Doran's early work experience includes serving as an NSERC Collaborative Research and Training Experience Program participant at Canadian Surgical Technologies and Advanced Robotics in 2013. In this role, they devised systems to measure tool-tissue forces in minimally-invasive surgical tools.
In 2012, they worked as an NSERC USRA Summer Research Project participant at Western University, constructing a 3D model of the middle ear to simulate acoustic-mechanical transmission of sound.
Lastly, Doran began their research career as a Student Researcher at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center from 2008 to 2011. Here, they conducted genotyping and studied the involvement of a specific gene in post-surgical healing.

Doran Avivi's education history begins with their high school diploma, which was obtained from North Toronto Collegiate Institute between the years 2006 and 2010. Following that, they pursued a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Mechanical and Materials Engineering at Western University from 2010 to 2014. Later, Doran continued their education at Western University, earning a Master's degree in Biomedical/Medical Engineering from 2014 to 2016.
In addition to their formal education, Doran Avivi has obtained various certifications.
