Chip Yates began their career in 2001 as a Business Development/Licensing Executive at Boeing. While at Boeing, they created and led an internal program to license aerospace technologies to the automotive and transportation sectors, and was responsible for $80M of 90% GM new business. Chip also taught a corporate entrepreneurship seminar at the Boeing Leadership Center. In 2004, Chip Yates moved to Honeywell as a Business Development/Licensing Executive. At Honeywell, they created an internal program to license Honeywell's Aerospace technologies and patents to the aerospace, transportation, automotive and marine sectors, and developed and led over $50M of new business. In 2012, Chip Yates founded and became CEO of Yates Electrospace Corporation. At Yates Electrospace Corporation, they designed and developed the Electric Long-EZ, an EV propulsion creation with 193kW, 480V, 600A, 53kWh, KERS, 220mph, 3,000 ft/min, and 8 world records. Chip also designed and developed the Silent Arrow GD-2000, a clean sheet design with 1,500 lbs payload and 8:1 L/D, and the Silent Arrow Widebody, a clean sheet design with 2,000 lbs payload and 7.6:1 L/D. Chip Yates has secured 4 patents and >$3.5M contracts, and has been named a Collier Finalist and had their work inducted into the Smithsonian.
Chip Yates has a diverse educational background. Chip attended the University of Southern California from 2001 to 2003, earning a Master's Degree in Business Entrepreneurship. Yates also completed a 4-Year Military/ROTC Program at Culver Academies between 1985 and 1989. Additionally, they have obtained several certifications, such as an FAA Certified Inspection Authorization (IA) from the Federal Aviation Administration in August 2022, an Advanced Open Water Diver from PADI in June 2019, and a SCUBA Open Water Diver from PADI in January 2019. Chip also holds an AMA Pro Roadracing License from MotoAmerica, an FAA-Certified Airframe & Powerplant Technician (A&P) from the Federal Aviation Administration, an FAA-Certified Commercial Pilot, Multiengine, Instrument Rated from the Federal Aviation Administration, an FAA-Certified Remote/Drone Pilot from the Federal Aviation Administration, an FIM World Superbike License from the FIM (Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme), a ProRally Racing License from the Sports Car Club of America, Inc. (SCCA), and a Security Clearance from the United States Department of Defense.
