Gunnar Madison is the Health & Wellness Director at YMCA of Ithaca & Tompkins County. Prior to this, they served as an intern for Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer and as President of Alpha Iota Gamma at Cornell University. Gunnar is a campus ambassador for the Gift of Life Marrow Registry.
Gunnar Madison has always been interested in helping others and making a difference in their community. While interning for Senator Schumer, Gunnar researched and developed memos on current policy issues to inform staff of ongoing current events as it pertained to the impact of COVID-19 and the local implementation of economic development and policy initiatives like the American Rescue Plan. Gunnar also served as primary assistant for the Deputy Regional Director and directed constituent inquiries to staff as needed.
As president of Alpha Iota Gamma, Gunnar was responsible for leading a team of officers and coordinating events that promoted sisterhood, philanthropy, and academics. Gunnar was also responsible for managing the finances of the organization.
Gunnar is passionate about giving back and has dedicated their time to various causes throughout their college career. Gunnar has volunteered with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, Habitat for Humanity, and the Cornell Food Pantry. Gunnar has also been a campus ambassador for the Gift of Life Marrow Registry since May 2019. In this role, they have been responsible for increasing registry membership and awareness about the importance of bone marrow donation.

Gunnar Madison has a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University in Biology and Society. They also have a Health Academy certification from New Visions Career Academy Broome-Delaware-Tioga BOCES. Additionally, they have a Regents Diploma with Advanced Distinction from Chenango Valley School. Finally, they have a Masters of Public Health from University at Buffalo's School of Public Health and Health Professions. They also have various certifications from The Y (YMCA) in things such as weight loss program facilitation and healthy heart ambassadorship. They also have certification from the American Red Cross in first aid, CPR, AED, and lifeguarding. Finally, they have a certification from MaineHealth in A Matter of Balance Master Trainer.
They work with Gregg Houck - Senior Director of Organizational Advancement, Rachael Jackson - Senior Director of Youth Development, and Alyson Murphy - Aquatics Director. Their manager is Frank Towner, CEO.
