Dennis Lee has a diverse work experience spanning multiple companies and roles in the publishing industry. Dennis began their career at Simon and Schuster in 2003 as a Financial Analyst/Cash Analyst, where they analyzed financial statements and prepared reports for upper management. Dennis then moved on to become a Sr Financial Analyst, where they analyzed the financial viability of potential publishing programs and managed the acquisition process for paperback imprints. Lee later became an Associate Business Manager, where they managed financial statements, acquisition processes, and inventory levels for novelty and media tie-in imprints.
In 2009, Lee joined Penguin Random House as a Business Manager, overseeing a staff and maintaining budget responsibilities for multiple publishers and imprints. Dennis also worked as the Director of Business Management, leading finance and operations work streams during the merger with Random House. Lee eventually became the VP Business Management & Finance, responsible for overseeing the transition and cutover of systems and accounting policies for the Penguin/Random House merger.
In 2017, Lee joined Houghton Mifflin Harcourt as a Senior Director of Finance, where they provided guidance and leadership to various departments and supported the acquisition of content for publishers and imprints. Dennis later became the Vice President Finance, Strategy & Operations, taking on additional responsibilities such as acting as a liaison for due diligence processes with potential buyers and spearheading data gathering for prospective buyers.
Most recently, in 2021, Lee held the position of Vice President Finance, Strategy & Operations at HarperCollins Publishers. In this role, they provided financial counsel and analytics to increase value creation and managed the deal approval process.
Currently, Lee is the Head of Finance & Operations at Zando, a position they started in November 2021.
Dennis Lee obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology & Biopsychology from the University of Michigan, where they studied from 1994 to 1998. Dennis furthered their education by pursuing a Masters of Business Administration (Honors) in Finance & Information Systems at the Baruch College Zicklin School of Business from 2000 to 2002.
