Ray Sykes has a long and varied work experience, beginning in 2002 with an internship at JA Jones Construction. From 2003 to 2005, they worked as an Engineering Assistant at Kevin Kelly and Associates, and as a Carpenter at Frank Lockary Construction and Stephen Donnelley Construction. In 2006, they began Design and Construction of large kinetic art projects, which included complex mechanical art, hydraulics, structural steel design, electronic control systems, propane flame effects, and high voltage effects. In 2007, Sykes became Shop Manager at Boxshop, where they assisted people with proper use of welders, CNC plasma cutter, and other metal shop equipment, and maintained and improved the building. From 2009 to 2012, they were a Camera Production Technician at earthmine inc and a Design, fabrication, and development engineer at HERE. Since 2019, Sykes has been working as a Senior Mechanical Engineer and Mechanical Design Engineer at Zendar.
Ray Sykes obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Southern California in 2004. In 2021, they earned a Solidworks CSWP certification from Dassault Systèmes.
