Sunil Kumar has a strong background in data science and software engineering. Sunil is currently working as a Data Scientist at Zephyr AI since May 2022. Prior to that, they were a Software Engineer at Google from July 2019 to April 2022.
In 2018, Sunil had an internship as a Data Science Intern at Boeing, where they worked on creating neural networks for automatic transcription of pdf part catalogs. Sunil utilized TensorFlow and achieved an F1 score of 0.996 with the final model.
Before joining Boeing, Sunil served as an Undergraduate Research Assistant in the Imoukhuede Lab at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from August 2015 to May 2017. Sunil used Matlab for computational modeling of the effect of VEGF inhibition on cell signaling, growth, migration, and proliferation for cancer and vascular disease therapeutics.
During their time at Medline Industries, Inc. in 2016, Sunil worked as a Product Manager Intern. Sunil developed go-to-market strategies for upcoming product lines and bridged the gap between the R&D department and the sales force.
In 2015, Sunil was an Undergraduate Research Assistant in the Leo Lab at the National University of Singapore. Sunil designed a covered stent using SolidWorks to regulate blood flow and prevent blockages in the carotid artery. Sunil also conducted tests on the efficacy of the designed stent in a physical flow loop model.
Lastly, in 2014, Sunil worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant in the Vikesland Lab at Virginia Tech. Sunil designed an experiment to measure the impact of nanoparticulate Cerium Oxide on the environment using gold nanoparticles and observed effects on the growth rate of rye grass. Sunil evaluated the plants using RAMAN spectroscopy, SEM, and visible spectrometer.
Sunil Kumar pursued a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering, with a minor in Computer Science, from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign between 2013 and 2017. Following this, from 2017 to 2019, Sunil attended the Carnegie Mellon University School of Computer Science, where they obtained a Master of Science (MS) degree in Artificial Intelligence Innovation.
