Nick Liu

Nick Liu has worked for various companies in the field of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. Nick held the position of Staff AI Engineer at ZERO Systems in 2023. Liu previously worked at CK-12 Foundation as Sr. AI Architect, responsible for architecting various components of Intelligent Tutor for students. At the same company, they built an advanced system to retrieve similar math questions for students and evaluated various models for transfer learning. Prior to that, Liu worked at Pinterest as a Staff Machine Learning Engineer, Organic Search, where they proposed a new initiative to solve organic search's cold start problem and significantly improved organic search relevance. Nick also worked at Apple as a Senior Algorithm Engineer, where they led several projects on broad match, tail query match, and misspelling correction for search ads retrieval. Finally, they worked at Microsoft as a Sr. Applied Researcher.

Nick Liu holds a Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Pennsylvania - The Wharton School, which they obtained between 1998 and 2004. Nick also studied Mathematics at Washington University in St. Louis from 1997 to 1998, although it is unclear if they received a degree. Prior to that, they earned their Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Peking University between 1992 and 1997.
