Dennis Chu

Dennis Chu has a wealth of experience in data science, machine learning engineering, and business intelligence. Dennis is currently working as the Head of Machine Learning Engineering at Absa Group since April 2022. Before that, they held the position of Data Science and Machine Learning Engineering Lead at Absa Group from January 2020 to May 2022. Prior to their time at Absa Group, Dennis worked for Barclays Africa Group Limited, where they served as the Vice-President of Big Data and Analytics Enterprise Tooling, driving the development of core tools on Big Data platforms from August 2017 onwards. Dennis also held the role of Vice-President of Big Data and Analytics Technical Analyst/Developer from August 2015 to August 2017, conducting research and development on analytics, NoSQL, and data processing technologies. Before joining Barclays, Dennis was the Vice-President of Business Intelligence Stream Lead and Development Manager at Barclays Africa Group Limited from January 2013 to March 2015. Dennis'searlier experiences include serving as a Presales/Senior Technical Consultant at Synergy Business Intelligence from October 2010 to December 2012, a Business Intelligence Trainer at Synergy Business Intelligence from October 2007 to September 2009, a Data Analyst at Ernst & Young from January 2007 to September 2007, and a Business Intelligence Consultant at Synergy Business Intelligence from February 2005 to January 2007.

Dennis Chu completed their high school education at the South African College School from 1996 to 2000. Dennis then pursued a degree in Honours in Business Science, specializing in Information Systems, at the University of Cape Town from 2000 to 2004. Additionally, Dennis has obtained several certifications, including the Databricks Certified Developer - Apache Spark 2.x for Scala from Databricks in 2018, the Functional Programming Principles in Scala from Coursera in 2017, and the R Programming and The Data Scientist's Toolbox from Coursera Course Certificates in 2015. Dennis also holds certifications from IBM, including the IBM Certified Designer (Cognos 8/10) and the IBM Certified Solutions Expert.
