Julia Twichell

Julia Twichell has a diverse and extensive work experience. Julia'smost recent role is as the Director of Data Design & UX at American Forests, where they lead cartography, information design, and user experience to advance the organization's vision for Tree Equity and climate-smart forest restoration. Prior to this, they served as a Senior Manager of GIS & UX Design at the same company. In 2021, Julia worked as a GIS and Information Design Consultant, specializing in spatial data analysis, map-based interactive design, data visualization, and UX design. From 2019 to 2021, they worked as a Watershed & GIS Specialist at the Narragansett Bay Estuary Program, where they led the development of GIS programs and data outputs, strategic planning, and engagement initiatives. Before that, Julia worked at the US Environmental Protection Agency as an Environmental Social Scientist Analyst, focusing on geospatial research and stakeholder-led planning. Julia also has experience as a GIS Contractor, Research Assistant at the University of Rhode Island, Assistant Coordinator at the Buzzards Bay Coalition, and Senior Assistant Scientist at the Sea Education Association. Julia's work has spanned various sectors, demonstrating their expertise in geospatial analysis, data visualization, and user experience design.

Julia Twichell has a diverse education history. Julia completed their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Biology/Biological Sciences, General from Carleton College between 2004 and 2008. In 2015, they pursued a Master's Degree in Marine Affairs at the University of Rhode Island, which they completed in 2016. Additionally, from 2020 to 2022, they attended the Rhode Island School of Design to obtain a CE in Interactive Design.

In addition to their formal education, Julia Twichell has also obtained certifications.
