Veterinary Consultant, Animal Welfare & Ethics at Animal Welfare Institute

Gwendolen Reyes-Illg currently serves as the Board Chair and Director of Policy Development for the Veterinary Association for Farm Animal Welfare and as a Veterinary Consultant for the Animal Welfare Institute, focusing on animal welfare science and advocacy. With extensive experience as an Emergency/ICU and Urgent Care Veterinarian at DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital and as a relief veterinarian in various practices, Gwendolen has demonstrated proficiency in emergency and general veterinary medicine. Previously, Gwendolen held significant roles, including Director of Veterinary Medicine for Project Chimps and provided veterinary care in remote wildlife sanctuaries in Africa. Educational qualifications include a D.V.M. from the University of Florida, an M.A. in Philosophy from Colorado State University, and certifications in veterinary acupuncture. Gwendolen has actively contributed to veterinary leadership through participation in various councils and boards.
