Shu Jian Choo has a diverse work experience, with their most recent role as the Head of FCC Policy, Strategy & Governance at Bank of Singapore, Asia's Global Private Bank. In this position, they lead a team responsible for FCC Private Banking policy, strategy, product and procedure advisory, governance, and training, as well as compliance investigations.
Prior to that, they held the role of MLRO at WorldFirst Asia Pte Ltd, where they had overall AML/CFT responsibility and worked closely with global teams to deliver business and risk calibrated outcomes. Shu Jian was also responsible for regulatory engagement and reporting.
Shu Jian Choo also worked at Ant Group as an AML & Sanctions Expert, where they provided regulatory advice to Singapore Ant entities and set AML standards for South and Southeast Asia. Shu Jian also reported to senior management on regulatory reforms.
Before transitioning to the private sector, Shu Jian Choo gained extensive experience at the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS). Shu Jian served in multiple roles, including Assistant Director in the Payments Department, where they were responsible for licensing and supervision of payment institutions and policy advice on digital token developments. Shu Jian was also involved in drafting AML requirements for digital payment token services and FSB recommendations on global stablecoins. Additionally, they served as Assistant Director/Senior Policy Analyst in the Prudential Policy Department, contributing to the development of the digital bank framework and payment services legislation.
Early in their career, Shu Jian Choo served as an Infantry Commander in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).
Throughout their career, Shu Jian Choo has demonstrated a solid understanding of financial compliance and AML/CFT regulations. Shu Jian has also been involved in policymaking, regulatory engagement, and reporting.
Shu Jian Choo, CAMS (朱树坚) has a diverse education background. In 2008, they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with Distinction from Cornell University, majoring in Political Science and Government, with a minor in Law & Society. In 2010-2011, they spent a year at the University of Oxford, studying and exploring topics in Politics, Philosophy, and Irish Literature. Before that, Shu Jian Choo attended Hwa Chong Institution in 2002-2003, where they pursued Humanities studies. Shu Jian completed their secondary education at Raffles Institution from 1998 to 2001.
In terms of certifications, Shu Jian Choo holds a Graduate Certificate in Digital Finance with a focus on Digital Forensics, Internet of Things, and Cloud Computing modules, which they obtained from SMU Academy in 2020. Shu Jian also earned a Fighting Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Certificate from ACAMS in the same year. In 2019, they became a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMLS) through ACAMS.
