Matthew S. J. Marshall has worked in the field of nanotechnology and materials science since 2005. Matthew S. J. began their career as a Graduate Student at Oxford University, where they specialized in nanotechnology and materials science utilizing UHV-scanning tunneling microscopy as well as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. This work resulted in seven peer-reviewed publications in top-tier research journals and presentations at several international conferences. In 2009, they began working as a Postdoctoral Associate at Yale University Careers, where they developed novel types of electronic devices. Specifically, they undertook research to make a non-volatile ferroelectric field effect transistor and improved the device performance 10-fold. Matthew S. J. was lead author on a study that posited a new method of manipulating gates in field effect transistors. In 2015, they joined Radiation Monitoring Devices, Inc. as a Team Lead & Senior Scientist and Senior Scientist. As Team Lead & Senior Scientist, they led a team of technicians and scientists on materials-driven discovery projects in scintillator development for radiation detection, photovoltaic (PV) cells, and molten salt reactor (MSR) analysis. As Senior Scientist, they optimized the generation, manipulation, and conversion of light. Finally, in 2022, they joined Boston Fusion as Lead Scientist.
Matthew S. J. Marshall has a diverse educational background. Matthew S. J. completed a D.Phil in Materials from the University of Oxford between 2005 and 2009. Prior to that, they obtained a BASc in Engineering Science - Nanoengineering from the University of Toronto between 2001 and 2005. In addition, they have obtained several certifications from Coursera, including Convolutional Neural Networks, Deep Learning Specialization, Sequence Models, Improving Deep Neural Networks: Hyperparameter tuning, Regularization and Optimization, Neural Networks and Deep Learning, Structuring Machine Learning Projects, Neural Networks for Machine Learning, Machine Learning, Using Databases with Python, Using Python to Access Web Data, Python Data Structures, and Programming for Everybody (Getting Started with Python).
