Job description

CarbonBuilt’s XPRIZE-winning technology decarbonizes concrete by cost-effectively replacing cement, its most expensive and carbon-intensive component, with industrial byproducts and CO₂. Our first customer in Alabama is producing 100s of tons of CarbonBuilt concrete every day, and we have ambitious plans for scaleup in the US and beyond. Reporting to the Head of Business Development, CarbonBuilt’s Quality Manager will be responsible for ensuring that CarbonBuilt’s customers achieve best-in-class product quality. They will engage with CarbonBuilt’s customers and raw material suppliers to ensure binder, production process and finished product quality control for a product portfolio that will encompass block, SRW, paver, precast, and drymix concrete products. 

More specifically, they will:  

  • Develop and maintain the corporate Quality Management System, and all its related elements.
  • Implement policies, operating procedures, systems and programs which ensure proper testing, evaluation, inspection, and technical support in order to meet raw material and finished product quality standards in the field.
  • Establish and implement quality training procedures and initiatives. 
  • Collaborate with CarbonBuilt and third-party technicians responsible for conducting material, process and product testing .
  • Maintain and review production and quality records and other manufacturing-related documents to verify compliance and record keeping for manufacturing processes, quality checks, testing, & sampling of raw materials and finished products.
  • Integrate test results from third-party, supplier, customer and CarbonBuilt laboratories to provide a comprehensive perspective for quality management.
  • Maintain records of “as used” mix designs for partner production facilities.
  • Maintain testing records for raw materials and finished products. 
  • Collaborate with other CarbonBuilders to interpret testing results and identify solutions for improved performance, quality, and cost.
  • Responsible for analyzing and implementing processes to ensure product performance and support ongoing mix design optimization.
  • Manage third-party testing activities to ensure product performance in compliance with ASTM and other standards.
  • Lead auditing procedures of finished products to ensure compliance with established specifications.
  • Lead the Corrective Action Process through root cause and countermeasure analysis to ensure process integrity, product quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead and manage company safety processes to ensure compliance with safety initiatives and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate quality standards with raw material vendors and work with suppliers and internal/third-party laboratories to validate performance upon receipt.
  • Support the technology team in the development of new products and processes.
  • Travel overnight 30-50% of the time. 

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Training and experience in drycast concrete testing according to ASTM and related standards. Additional concrete testing experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work under pressure in an extremely fast paced environment
  • Computer knowledge (Microsoft Office applications) and computer-based applications
  • Exceptional multi-tasking ability 
  • Skilled in organization, prioritization, and strong attention to details
  • Team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines
  • Considered a self starter and able to effectively effectively communicate ideas (verbally and in writing) as well as handle difficult reporting situations
  • Valid driver’s license

Education and Experience:

  • 7+ years of work experience as quality assurance auditor or technician and 3+ years of managerial experience  
  • Experience working with a variety of supplementary cementitious materials  

Physical Requirements:

  • The employee must frequently transport and move items up to 80 pounds
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain stationary or move throughout the workstations; also includes the ability to ascend and descend steps and ladders; and position in tight spaces.
