Dan Wiederer

Chicago Bears Writer, Sports Enterprise Reporter at Chicago Tribune

Dan Wiederer has a diverse work experience in the field of sports journalism. Dan started their career as a sports reporter at Sun Publications, where they covered athletics at six area high schools. Dan wrote deadline game stories, columns, and features. During their time there, they also worked on a four-part series examining the evolution of media coverage in high school sports.

After that, Wiederer moved on to become the sports editor/columnist at Red Streak, a daily metro publication. In this role, they headed the sports section and wrote three columns per week on national and local topics. Dan also contributed a weekly column until July 2004.

Dan then joined Naperville Sun as an assistant sports editor and Chicago Bears writer. Dan served as the Bears writer for two seasons and also aided in planning the sports section and coaching writers. During this time, they were responsible for designing the sports section blueprint for America's newest daily paper.

Wiederer's next venture was as a seminar leader at The Poynter Institute in 2008. Dan facilitated seminars on sports journalism.

In 2005, Wiederer joined Fayetteville Observer as an ACC basketball reporter, where they covered North Carolina, Duke, N.C. State, and Wake Forest. Dan continued in this role until 2011.

In 2010, Wiederer released a book titled "Blue Streak: the highs, lows and behind-the-scenes hijinks of a national champion". The book provides an insider's view of the North Carolina Tar Heels' journey to the 2009 national championship.

Following this, from 2011 to 2013, they worked as the lead Minnesota Vikings beat writer for Minneapolis Star Tribune. Dan was responsible for daily beat coverage, insider columns, and regular enterprise work. Dan also oversaw the paper's "Access Vikings" blog and hosted "Access Vikings: The Show" videos three times per week during the football season.

Currently, Wiederer is serving as a Chicago Bears writer and sports enterprise reporter at Chicago Tribune Media Group, a position they have held since 2013.

Dan Wiederer obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign from 1995 to 1998. Additionally, they attended the Poynter Institute for Media Studies (St) in 1998 to further their education in Journalism.
