Position Summary: The New Roots Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the planning, development, and maintenance of the New Roots Garden, a 2.3-acre community garden/farm in City Heights, a culturally diverse urban neighborhood in San Diego. The coordinator ensures the seamless operation of the garden, champions sustainable gardening practices, and fosters clear communication among garden/farmer members. Working in close collaboration with the Economic Development Program Manager and Senior Program Manager, the Program Coordinator leads efforts to advance community placemaking initiatives within the garden/farm.
Main Responsibilities:
- Planning and organizing garden events and activities
- Recruiting and coordinating volunteers
- Assisting with the management garden plots and maintenance tasks
- Developing and implementing educational programs
- Facilitating communication among garden members
- Promoting sustainable gardening practices
- Collaborating with community organizations and stakeholders
- Ensuring the overall success and sustainability of the community garden
- Assisting in securing funding and grants for garden projects
- Developing partnerships with local businesses and organizations
- Assisting in the preparation and tracking of the garden budget C
- Implementing garden rules and regulations
- Conducting outreach and marketing efforts to attract new garden members
- Organizing workshops and events related to gardening, sustainability, and community building
- Monitoring and evaluating the success of garden programs and initiatives
- Addressing any conflicts or issues that arise within the garden community
- Keeping records and documentation related to garden activities and operations
- Staying informed about best practices in community gardening and sustainability initiatives
- Additional duties as assigned

Understanding of sustainable gardening practices, including water conservation and environmental stewardship to champion eco-friendly initiatives for garden longevity.

Bilingual proficiency is preferred.
Hours and Compensation
- 40 hours per week, non-exempt
- Starting hourly wage: $24-$26/hr depending on experience.
