James Alderson Smith

James Alderson Smith has a diverse work experience starting with their current role as the Founding Principal at Crux since February 2023. Prior to that, they worked as an Investor at Newlab from May 2022 to February 2023. James also served as an Investor at New System Ventures from June 2022 to January 2023. Additionally, they worked as a Global Impact Consultant at Sistema Biobolsa/Sistema.bio from February 2022 to July 2022. Before transitioning into impact investing, James held a senior leadership position as the Senior Vice President of Business Development at Onyx Renewable Partners L.P. from January 2016 to August 2021. James also gained experience in data analytics and auditing through internships at Deloitte in 2012 and 2011, respectively.

James Alderson Smith attended Horace Mann School from 2004 to 2010. James then pursued a Master of Engineering in Engineering Economics and Management at the University of Oxford from 2010 to 2014. Currently, they are enrolled at The Wharton School, where they are expected to complete a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from 2021 to 2023.
