Deepak Nijhawan

Founder & Director at Dose Therapeutics

Deepak Nijhawan has been a faculty member at UTSW since 2012 where he sees patients at Clements University Hospital and supervises a research laboratory in the department of biochemistry.

Over the past ten years, he has carried out research aiming to understand the mechanism of action for compounds that have some promising activity in cancer but no known target.

This work has led to new strategies to target the levels or activity of specific proteins important for cancer cell growth and as a result, new opportunities to develop drugs to solve unmet medical needs.

His current research is intertwined with like-minded synthetic chemists in the department of biochemistry and aims to further expand the understanding of how small molecules influence cancer.

Dr. Nijhawan received his undergraduate degree in neuroscience from Northwestern University in 1995, and his medical degree and PhD in biochemistry from the University of Texas Southwestern in 2005.

He was an intern and resident at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and then completed a medical oncology fellowship at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute / MGH combined program.
