Dr. Carsten Carstens

Dr. Carsten Carstens has a wealth of experience in the scientific and food industries. Dr. Carsten is currently the Chief Scientific Officer and Technical Consultant at KARANA. Additionally, they are a Mentor at Big Idea Ventures, where they focus on plant based, cellular ag, and technologies that enhance the ecosystem. Prior to this, they were on a Sabbatical in 2018. From 2013-2018, they were the Scientific Director, Innovation & Product Manager, Head of Product Development, Meat Products, Deputy Head of Product Development, Meat Products, and Product Developer at HYDROSOL GmbH & Co. KG. From 2009-2013, they were a Scientific Researcher at the University of Hamburg. In 2008, they were a Visiting Research Fellow at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. In 2007, they were a Visiting Research Fellow at Zhejiang University.

Dr. Carsten Carstens received a Master of Science in Food Chemistry from the University of Hamburg in 2002-2007. Dr. Carsten then attended Zhejiang University in 2007-2008, with no degree awarded. Finally, they received their Doctor of Philosophy in Food Chemistry from the University of Hamburg in 2009-2012.
