Edwin Banda has a strong background in the telecommunications industry, with experience at multiple companies. Edwin began their career at TelOneSA as a Transmission Engineer from 1996 to 2000. Edwin then moved on to work for Econet Telecom Lesotho as a BTS & Transmission Consultant from 2003 to 2004. In 2005, they joined Celtel International B.V. (later Celtel Sierra Leone) as a BSS & Transmission Consultant, where they managed daily operations, conducted training, and successfully implemented improvements to microwave link failures.
After their time at Celtel, Edwin worked at Ericsson as a Transmission Test & Integration Engineer from 2007 to 2007 and as an Access Implementation Manager from 2008 to 2009. During their time as an Access Implementation Manager, they played a key role in the implementation of the Zain Ghana network, meeting tight targets and resolving network interference issues.
Edwin then returned to Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, where they held various roles. Edwin served as a BTS & Transmission Senior Specialist from 2008 to 2008, before joining Ericsson again as a BSS & Transmission Senior Specialist from 2008 to 2009. Edwin later re-joined Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, first as a BSS & Transmission Manager from 2009 to 2013, then as an NOC Manager from 2013 to 2017. As an NOC Manager, they established a 24/7 network operations center, implemented processes and procedures, and participated in software specification. Edwin then served as the Head of Network Operations and, most recently, as the General Manager of Service & System Operations. In August 2020, Edwin assumed the role of Chief Technology Officer at Econet Wireless Zimbabwe.
