Global Director of ePowertrain Development and Engineering at ELMS at Electric Last Mile Solutions

Qiang Mei, Ph.D. EE has a wealth of experience in the engineering field. From 2021 to present, they are the Global Director of ePowertrain Development and Engineering at ELMS: Electric Last Mile Solutions. From 2017 to 2021, they held various roles at General Motors, including Electrical Drive System Integration & Optimization, Motor Control Calibration, and Senior Motor Control Engineer. From 2009 to 2017, they were a Senior Engineer and Project Engineer at Whirlpool Corporation, where they developed active flux braking algorithms based on sensorless motor control technologies for Top Load Washing Machines, load mass detection based on sensorless motor control technologies for washers, and off-balance detection based on sensorless motor control technologies for washers. From 2006 to 2009, they were a Research Assistant at The University of Toledo, where they introduced multi-surface Peak Power Trackers into high latitude solar power aerostat systems, developed Battery Management Systems (BMS), and realized Peak Power Tracking (PPT) with the embedded system microcontroller C515. From 2001 to 2006, they were an Assistant Professor at Yanshan University, where they developed universal DSP control boards and program codes with DSP-TMS320LF2812 for proposed inverters, completed many simulations about the topologies and control strategies for inverters in Pspice and Matlab, and developed 3KVA and 10KVA lab prototypes for single and three phase inverters with teammates. Lastly, from 2004 to 2006, they were a Research Assistant at Tianjin University, where they introduced a novel multi-port system with four-port DC/DC converters in hybrid renewable energy systems, proposed the power management control strategy to realize bidirectional power flow management, and completed many simulations about the topologies and control strategies in Pspice and Matlab.

Qiang Mei, Ph.D. EE, obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Power Electronics and Motor Drives from Yanshan University in 1999. Qiang then went on to receive a Master of Science (MS) in Power Electronics and Motor Drives from Yanshan University in 2003. In 2004, they attended Tianjin University to study Power Electronics and Motor Drives. In 2006, they completed a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering (Power Electronics and Motor Drives) from The University of Toledo. In 2014, they earned a Certified Six-sigma Black Belt from Whirlpool Corporation. In 2019, they obtained a DFSS Black Belt from General Motors.
