Daniel Shlian, Ph.D. has a diverse work experience. In 2013, they were a Volunteer Lecturer, Module Designer, and Team Leader at START Science. In 2014, they were an Undergraduate Research Assistant at Yeshiva University. In 2015, they were an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the Weizmann Institute of Science, where they researched polyoxometalate (POM) chemistry as part of the Kupcinet-Getz International Summer School and characterized products of two novel approaches for synthesis of fluorinated POMs. From 2017 to 2022, they were a Graduate Research Assistant and Graduate Teaching Assistant at Columbia University in the City of New York. As a Graduate Research Assistant, they synthesized and characterized zinc, cadmium, and magnesium complexes employing a bipodal ligand, and investigated their roles as catalysts in hydroboration and hydrosilylation of CO2 and carbonyls, and structurally and spectroscopically characterized a diverse range of other main group metal complexes featuring, inter alia, carbodiphosphorane and terpyridine ligands. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, they taught recitations, addressed student queries, and designed examinations for General Chemistry Lecture over five semesters, directly supervised experiments and assisted students’ reporting for General Chemistry Laboratory course for one semester, and addressed student queries and designed examinations for graduate and undergraduate students in Structural Methods in Inorganic Chemistry. Currently, they are a Scientific Developer at Emerald Cloud Lab.
Daniel Shlian, Ph.D. obtained their Doctor of Philosophy in Inorganic Chemistry from Columbia University between 2017 and 2022. Prior to that, they completed a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Yeshiva University between 2013 and 2017.
