Gina Clayton-Johnson

Gina Clayton-Johnson is a prominent advocate for social justice and equity, currently serving as the Founder and Executive Director of Essie Justice Group, a non-profit focused on the welfare of women with incarcerated loved ones and the impacts of mass incarceration on marginalized communities. In addition to leading Essie, Gina is a member of the Policy Table Leadership Team for The Movement for Black Lives, where strategic legislative and organizing efforts are developed to challenge systemic oppression. Gina's previous experience includes establishing the Housing Defense Project at the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem, providing legal support for low-income families at risk of eviction, and contributing to various legal and advocacy roles including stints at the Southern Center for Human Rights, Public Defender Service, and the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia. Gina holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A. in American Studies and Ethnicity from the University of Southern California.
