Rich Baker has been in the technology industry since 1976. Rich began their career as a Member Technical Staff at Hughes Aircraft Company. In 1983, they became an Adjunct Professor at Brigham Young University. In 1984, they took on the role of Assistant Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, where they researched data compression algorithms for video, multi-spectral and single frame images and developed custom ASICs for low rate videophone codec using vector quantization. In 1990, they joined PictureTel as VP & CTO and was responsible for a $76M budget, assisting in the transition of product line from seven client architectures to one and three server architectures to two. In 2000, they co-founded Glance Networks, Inc. with Taylor Kew, where today's inside sales and customer support agents operate blind and Glance lets those agents instantly turn any customer call or chat into an effortless two-way "see what I see" experience.
Rich Baker completed their Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at Caltech between 1970 and 1974. Rich then went on to pursue a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering at the University of Southern California between 1976 and 1978. Finally, they obtained their Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University between 1978 and 1984.
