Torben Seebold was born on 23 July 1981 in Haan, Germany. From 2003 to 2009 he studied law in Regensburg, Liège and Cologne. After completing his legal internship in Wuppertal, he started his professional career with the services union ver.di. In 2010, he took on various duties and responsibilities at ver.di’s traffic department in Cologne, including that of experienced negotiator of regional labour agreements and was a member of various municipal company Supervisory Boards. In 2013, he was made head of ver.di’s Shipping group and, from 2014 onwards, the Port group.
After the two groups were merged on 1 January 2017 to form the Maritime Economy group, Torben Seebold was appointed head of the group, which involved conducting negotiations on key labour agreements for the maritime industry on behalf of ver.di. As Vice Chairman of the European Transport Workers’ Federation (ETF) and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) he took on various positions of responsibility internationally.
Torben Seebold was appointed to the Executive Board of HHLA by the Supervisory Board on 1 April 2019.
