Dean K. Smith

Dean K. Smith, Ph. D, serves as the Section Head and Senior Scientific Evaluator for Bacterial and Combination Vaccines at Health Canada since January 2002, overseeing quality submission reviews and lot releases for vaccines such as BCG and typhoid. Smith has held multiple leadership roles, including Acting Chief of the Bacterial and Combination Vaccines Division and the Hemostatic Agents and Blood Substitutes Division, where responsibilities encompassed management of program activities and oversight of human and financial resources. Earlier experience includes a position as a Research Associate at the Canadian National Research Council, focusing on vaccine design and T cell response enhancement. Smith holds a Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology & Immunology from the University of Alberta and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Ottawa.
