Mark Ballentine, P.E.

Mark Ballentine, P.E. has a diverse range of work experience in the engineering field. Mark began their career as an Electrical Engineer at Charleston Naval Shipyard, where they worked in the Planning Department and Design and Production Engineering Divisions from 1984 to 1992.

In 1992, Mark joined Santee Cooper, where they held several positions over the course of 24 years. Mark started as an Electrical Engineer in the Power Supply and System SCADA department, responsible for installing and maintaining remote terminal units and computer workstations. Mark also provided technical documentation for the RTU/EMS database and assisted in the development and installation of intelligent electronic devices.

Mark later became a Principal Engineer in the System Protection & Control - Construction and Maintenance department, where they developed technical instructions and plans for installing and maintaining remote terminal units. Mark also trained lower-grade engineers and technicians and troubleshooted operational difficulties related to protective relaying.

In 2001, Mark transitioned to the role of Principal Engineer in the Substation Relay & Control Design department. In this position, they maintained project schedules and workflow for their design team and prepared electrical installation drawings and technical documentation for transmission and distribution substation design and construction.

In 2008, Mark was promoted to Superintendent of System Metering at Santee Cooper. In this role, they provided technical oversight, planning, installation, and maintenance services for revenue meters, including revising policies and procedures for improved accuracy and security of metering data.

In 2013, Mark became the Supervisor of System SCADA at Santee Cooper, where they directed and supervised the daily activities of System SCADA personnel. Mark was also responsible for administering the Cyber Security Policy and ensuring company adherence to Cyber Security Standards.

Most recently, Mark worked at Innovative Solar Systems, LLC as an Electrical Engineer and later as the Engineering Manager. As an Electrical Engineer, they were responsible for solar project development, providing technical documentation for generator interconnection requests, and assisting in the development of engineering tools. As the Engineering Manager, they supervised a team of engineers and engineering associates, led the group in project and research development, and reviewed and approved technical documentation for generator interconnection requests.

Mark Ballentine, P.E. obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of South Carolina from 1980 to 1984.
