Whitney Cherner has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. In 2002, they worked as an Account Executive at First Marketing Group, where they developed marketing strategies and programs for hotel, real estate, and professional accounts. From 2004 to 2006, they served as a Language Arts/Reading Facilitator in the Palm Beach County School District, creating curriculum and innovative lesson plans for middle school students.
In 2010, Whitney transitioned to the field of social work, starting as a Substance Abuse Social Worker at Recovery Associates of the Palm Beaches. There, they evaluated clients' needs and created holistic treatment programs, utilizing expressive therapy techniques. In 2011, they worked as an Oncology Social Worker at Lynn Regional Cancer Center in Boca Raton, providing comprehensive support to patients and families undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
From 2012 to 2014, Whitney worked as a Primary Therapist and Group Facilitator at The Watershed Addiction Treatment Programs Inc, offering counseling services to clients with substance abuse and dual diagnosis issues. Whitney focused on guiding clients towards community reintegration through obtaining a sponsor, gaining employment, and developing independent living skills.
In 2014, Whitney became the Vice President of Career & Employment Services at Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services, overseeing career and employment programs. In 2016, they established their own counseling practice, What NOW? Counseling and Coaching, where they currently serve as a Counselor & Coach, providing remote individual counseling using a solution-focused approach.
Most recently, starting in 2019, Whitney has been working at the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County. Whitney first served as the Senior Director of Mandel Center for Leadership Development, followed by the role of Director of Career Connections. Currently, they hold the position of Senior Director, Career & Community Resources, focused on supporting professional development and community engagement.
Whitney Cherner has a Masters of Social Work from Florida Atlantic University, specializing in Clinical/Medical Social Work. Prior to that, they received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English, with Honors, from Florida State University, focusing on English Language and Literature. Additionally, they hold certification as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling.
