Julian Sweet has been an Optical Scientist at Light Field Lab, Inc. since 2021. From 2016 to 2019, they were Managing Principal at Multifamily Project Management, where they were responsible for management of the properties and all capital improvement projects. Julian coordinated with several regulatory bodies to ensure project compliance. From 2019 to 2021, they were AR/VR Optical Scientist at Meta Company, where they lead a technically adept team to design and test components to create an ultra-wide field-of-view for augmented reality visors. Julian also established collaborative relationships with next-generation display manufacturers. From 2015 to 2019, they were a Staff Research Scientist at ReResearch, where they spearheaded nanomaterial R&D efforts for a new type of rechargeable battery. From 2013 to 2015, they were a Research Scientist at Air Force Research Laboratory, where they led semiconductor quantum optics and ultrafast laser research and created and managed a new, $2M state-of-the-art research laboratory. From 2010 to 2009, they were a Postdoctoral Researcher at Argonne National Laboratory, where they spurred advances in the exploration of metal nanowire structure through novel utilization of synchrotron coherent x-ray diffractive imaging. Finally, they were a Postdoctoral Fellow at The University of Arizona from 2009 to 2010.
Julian Sweet has a diverse educational background, having obtained a BS in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley, an MS in Electrical / Computer Engineering from UC Santa Barbara, and a MS and PhD in Optical Sciences from the University of Arizona. In addition, they have completed two certifications from edX: Foundations of Data Science: Computational Thinking with Python (obtained in May 2018) and Silicon Photonics Design, Fabrication and Data Analysis (obtained in 2018). Julian also completed a Data Science Immersive program from General Assembly.
