Kjetil Hillestad has extensive work experience, with their most recent role being the Director of Communication at Miljødirektoratet since January 2019. Prior to that, they served as the Director of Communications at NORGES VASSDRAGS- OG ENERGIDIREKTORAT (NVE) from April 2013 to December 2018. Kjetil also held the position of Director of Communication at Barne-, ungdoms- og familiedirektoratet (Bufdir) from January 2008 to April 2013. Kjetil has experience working in government organizations, as they were the Head of Communication at Barne- og likestilingsdepartementet from February to December 2009, and the Head of Communication at Sosialistisk Venstreparti, Stortingsgruppa from September 2004 to December 2007. Kjetil has also served as a States Secretary at the Prime Ministers Office for a brief period in 2006. Prior to their government roles, Kjetil worked as a Senior adviser at Statskonsult from August 2000 to August 2004. Kjetil started their career as the Head of Department at the United Nations Association from August 1992 to August 2000, and earlier served as the CEO of the Council for Southern Africa from December 1991 to August 1992.
Kjetil Hillestad completed their Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Government from the University of Oslo (UiO) between 1985 and 1992. Later, they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Management from the BI Norwegian Business School, graduating between 2001 and 2007.
