Julian Togelius has worked in various roles in the computer science and engineering field since 2001. Julian began their career as a Teaching Assistant at Lund University in 2001. In 2003, they became the Owner of Togelius Tanke & Teknik, where they worked on high-performance platforms for instant messaging, discussion forums, and other real-time communication forms for web communities. In 2004, they became a PhD Student (Researcher) and Teaching Assistant at the University of Essex, where they researched the application of evolutionary computation to robotics and computer games. In 2007, they became a Researcher at IDSIA. From 2008 to 2012, they were a Lecturer at the University of Lugano and an Associate Professor at IT University of Copenhagen, where they conducted research and teaching on AI in computer games. In 2015, they became an Associate Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at New York University. In 2018, they became Co-Founder and Research Director at modl.ai, where they lead research and development projects related to applications within video games and simulations, and is also involved in strategy and fund-raising. Julian is also a Scientific Advisor at OriGen.AI.
Julian Togelius completed their PhD in Computer Science from the University of Essex in 2007. Prior to that, they obtained an MSc in Evolutionary and Adaptive Systems from the University of Sussex in 2003. Julian also earned a BA in Philosophy, Computer Science, and Psychology from Lund University in 2002.
