Ellen Liu has a diverse work experience spanning several organizations and roles. Ellen currently works at the Ms. Foundation for Women, where they hold the position of Chief Program Officer. Prior to this role, they served as the Vice President of Grantmaking and Capacity Building and as the Director of Capacity Building and Learning at the same organization. Additionally, they were the Director of Women's Health, overseeing various grant-making initiatives and capacity building programs. Before joining the Ms. Foundation for Women, Ellen worked at the Open Society Foundations as a Program Officer, where they developed a grantmaking strategy and launched a new program focused on civil society organizations. Ellen has also held roles as a Consultant at the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs and as a Special Projects Consultant to the Executive Director at the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation. Earlier in their career, they interned at the UN World Food Programme and worked as a Senior Account Executive at MSL (Global).
Ellen Liu completed their education history with a Certificate in Non-Profit Management from Georgetown University in 2017. Prior to that, they obtained a Master of Arts (M.A.) in International Relations and Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) between 2002 and 2004. Ellen initially pursued their undergraduate studies at Georgetown University from 1994 to 1998, earning a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree with a major in History. Most recently, they obtained a Certificate of Completion in Holding Space for Pregnancy Loss from the Institute for the Study of Birth, Breath, and Death in 2021.
