Martin Smith, AIA, NCARB, CAE has a diverse work experience in the field of architecture. Martin has held various roles at the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), starting as a Manager for Internship + Education in 2009. Martin then progressed to become an Assistant Director and most recently an Assistant Vice President for Experience + Education.
Prior to their time at NCARB, Martin worked as a Project Manager & Designer at Fifield Piaker Elman Architects from 2002 to 2009. Here, they managed and developed projects, created construction documents, and oversaw construction management.
Before that, Martin was a Project Manager at David Smotrich & Partners LLP from 2001 to 2002. In this role, they prepared schematic drawings, construction documents, conducted equipment and code research.
Martin also gained experience as an Architectural Intern & Office Manager at Wadia Associates from 2000 to 2001. During this time, they prepared construction documents, developed office standards, and designed promotional literature.
Martin Smith, AIA, NCARB, CAE received their Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) degree from the School of Architecture at Syracuse University, where they studied from 1994 to 1999. During this time, they also studied at Syracuse University. In addition to their education, Martin has obtained several certifications throughout their career. In 2012, they became a Certified Scrum Master through the Scrum Alliance. More recently, in 2023, they obtained the Certified Association Executive (CAE) certification from ASAE: The Center for Association Leadership, as well as the Gender Inclusive Language Digital Badge from Bright Baltimore Consulting & Training.
