Fernando Soares Gomes da Silva was born on February 21, 1952, in the parish of Cedofeita, in Porto. Graduated in Economics in 1976, he started his professional activity at NCR, having been a member of the Amorim Group and Sonae.
For 15 years he was a basketball player at FC Porto. In the 90s, he chaired the Basketball Clubs League.
He assumed functions as President of the Portuguese Football League on June 7, 2010 and was elected President of the Portuguese Football Federation on December 10, 2011, taking office on December 17, 2011.
