Jim Winkelmann has a diverse work experience in the field of biomedical engineering and technology.
Jim is currently the Chief Technology Officer at Presage Technologies since June 2023, and previously served as the Director of Biomedical Engineering from June 2021.
Prior to that, Jim worked as a Data Scientist at World Wide Technology from September 2019 to May 2021.
Jim also worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Northwestern University from April 2019 to August 2019, and as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Backman Biophotonics Laboratory from August 2014 to April 2019.
Jim gained industry experience as a College Student Tech Sr Spec at Lockheed Martin in June 2018.
In addition to their academic and industry roles, they have also worked as an Undergraduate Researcher at the Viator Lab from July 2011 to April 2014, where they focused on improving the photoacoustic flow cytometry cancer diagnostic system.
Jim founded Why Climb Mountains, LLC in June 2010 and served as its Founder until January 2014.
During their undergraduate studies, Jim worked as an Undergraduate Researcher in Dr. Guillermo Tearney's Lab at the Harvard-MIT HST MGH Biomedical Optics Summer Institute in 2013, where they designed and fabricated a rigid micro-OCT probe.
Jim also worked in Dr. Seemantini Nadkarni's Lab at the same institute in 2012, where they designed a Laser Speckle Rheology apparatus for evaluating the biomechanical properties of tumors and received the Yao Su Student Research Prize for Best Poster Presentation.
Jim Winkelmann completed their education in a chronological manner. Jim obtained a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University, where they studied from 2014 to 2019. In 2017, they also attended Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management, specializing in Management for Scientists and Engineers.
Before pursuing their Ph.D., Winkelmann earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Jim studied at the University of Missouri-Columbia from 2009 to 2014.
Prior to their undergraduate studies, Winkelmann attended Chaminade College Prep School from 2002 to 2009, although the specific degree or field of study is unknown.
Alongside their formal education, Winkelmann has obtained various certifications. Jim completed the Deep Learning Specialization, Sequence Models, Convolutional Neural Networks, Improving Deep Neural Networks: Hyperparameter tuning, Regularization and Optimization, Structuring Machine Learning Projects, and Neural Networks and Deep Learning courses from Coursera. Jim accomplished these certifications between December 2018 and March 2019.
