Principal Associate Scientist at Prime Medicine

Manuel Tapia, MSc. has a diverse range of work experience in the field of ophthalmology gene therapy. Starting in 2006, they worked as an Environmental Scientist at Scheda Ecological Associates, Inc. before transitioning to a role as an Assembly Technician at Wialan Technologies in 2008. In 2009, they served as a Research Associate at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine and later as a Research Assistant at Scripps Florida. From 2011 to 2013, Manuel worked as a Research Associate at OPKO Health, Inc. and then joined Biotest Pharmaceuticals Corporation as an Associate Scientist from 2013 to 2014. Manuel then served as the Lab Manager at the University of Miami from 2014 to 2018.

In 2019, Manuel began their work in ophthalmology gene therapy, starting as a Research Scientist at NIGHTSTAR THERAPEUTICS where they focused on treating eye diseases such as Retinitis Pigmentosa, Stargardt's disease, and Choroideremia using Gene Therapy (AAV). Manuel then joined Biogen as an Associate Scientist II, working on Ophthalmology gene therapy for Retinitis Pigmentosa and Stargardt's disease. Manuel later advanced to Senior Associate Scientist, where they continued their work in ophthalmology gene therapy for Retinitis Pigmentosa and Glaucoma.

Most recently, Manuel joined Prime Medicine, Inc. as a Principal Associate Scientist in 2021, where they currently focus on using Crispr to treat Inherited Retinal Diseases (IRDs) in ophthalmology gene therapy.

Manuel Tapia, MSc. has a strong educational background in the field of biology and molecular biology. Manuel obtained their Master of Science degree in Molecular Biology from Florida Atlantic University, where they pursued their studies from 2004 to 2006. Prior to their master's degree, Manuel earned their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biotechnology, Molecular, and Cell Biology from the same institution, completing their undergraduate education between 2000 and 2004.

Before attending college, Manuel Tapia completed their high school education. Manuel obtained their high school diploma from Charles W. Flanagan High School in 2000, where they specialized in Arts and Sciences. Earlier, they had also obtained a high school diploma with a focus on Biology, General from Charter Oak High School in 1999.
