Mike Murphy has a diverse range of work experience in engineering and project management. Mike started their career as a Utility Operator at Wheelabrator Bridgeport Resco in 1990. Mike then worked as a Second Assistant Engineer at American Maritime Officers for 7 years, where they were responsible for maintaining and operating ship engine equipment. In 1997, they transitioned to become a Facilities Engineer at Building Technology Engineers, where they managed preventive maintenance and repairs for HVAC systems. From 2000 to 2002, they worked as a Project Engineer at Vanderweil Engineers, overseeing the MEP/FP system installations at Gillette Stadium. Mike then worked at Shaughnessy Millwright Services as a Project Engineer, reviewing and updating contract documents for baggage handling system upgrades at Logan International Airport. In 2003, they joined Quincy Medical Center as a Third Class Engineer, responsible for maintaining and operating boilers. In 2005, they held two concurrent roles: as a Project Engineer at Architectural Environments, Inc., coordinating cosmetic upgrades at Charles Stark Draper Laboratory, and as an Engineering Project Manager at Talbots, managing store planning and design engineering standards. Finally, in 2012, they joined Vanderweil Engineers again as a Mechanical Engineer and Construction Administration Project Manager for mission-critical projects totaling 1 million sq. ft.

Mike Murphy attended the Massachusetts Maritime Academy from 1984 to 1989. During this period, they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering.
