Youngah (Karen) Kwon is an experienced editor and journalist currently serving as the Research and Special Projects Editor at Science News Magazine since October 2023. Prior to this role, Kwon held the position of Associate Editor at Optica from September 2021 to September 2023 and has contributed to multiple publications, including Scientific American, Aerospace America, and IEEE Spectrum as a freelance journalist from December 2018 to September 2023. Kwon’s editorial experience also encompasses roles as a copyeditor and editor for Scienceline and as a news writer intern with the American Institute of Physics. Kwon's educational background includes a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Columbia University, as well as master’s degrees in Science, Health, and Environmental Reporting from New York University, and Physical Chemistry from Korea University, which also awarded a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Additional teaching and research experiences were gained at various academic institutions, including Columbia University and Korea University.
