Job description

As the VP, Culture & Communications, you will be responsible for keeping SOL teammates connected to relevant information, messages and stories, inspiring confidence in the organization and fueling a sense of belonging, transparency and engagement. You will also develop a strategy for all external media placements and requests, repeatedly and strategically telling the story of SOL, our clinicians and teammates.

You will partner with leaders across the organization to help SOL teammates feel connected to - and ownership of - the company’s results, mission, goals, priorities, and initiatives by leading and executing strategic and creative internal communications programs. From channel operations and executive communications to internal editorial management, you will help the company communicate more effectively. You will collaborate across teams as a strategic communications partner to craft campaigns, strategies and messaging that successfully supports our mission.

You will report to the Chief Executive Officer and/or Chief People Officer.

Responsibilities: 

Internal Communications: 

  • Create comprehensive, creative communication strategies and campaigns that support the success of organizational priorities and initiatives.
  • Curate internal communications content that inspires our team to achieve our mission and relentlessly pursue best-in-class clinical outcomes.
  • Develop and oversee recurrent communication channels that support awareness and organizational transparency. Work cross-functionally with key stakeholders to align on communication goals, channel strategy, and messaging.
  • Partner with our marketing leader to refresh, revitalize and amplify our core cultural pillars: mission, values and purpose
  • Leverage your experience in change management to shepherd organizational and operational change via communication strategies.
  • Build and oversee a company intranet, including defining protocols that determine content for inclusion.
  • Determine when internal messages should be cross-communicated externally and vice-versa
  • Ensure our executive team is media-ready, as needed.
  • Constantly evaluate the effectiveness of our approach by developing and monitoring metrics that define impact.
  • Promote communication best practices with leaders whose roles involve significant or far reaching communication, aligning to shared organizational standards
  • Work closely with members of the Executive Leadership Team and other leaders as a thought and execution partner.
  • Prioritize building cross-functional relationships and establishing foundations of trust as a business partner.

External Communications:

  • Create engaging, timely, newsworthy content that supports the brand, reputation and company goals
  • Oversee and drive strategy and execution of PR and media relations efforts, securing positive media coverage
  • Oversee/manage content for press releases, bylined articles, media statements, etc
  • Oversee external recognition efforts including awards and speaking opportunities
  • Establish and maintain strong media relationships, manage media inquiries
  • Use data and analytics to inform communications strategy, evaluate success
  • Identify key areas of reputational risk, plan for issues as appropriate
  • Manage external communications agencies and partners as appropriate
  • Drive media relations efforts at a national, regional and local level

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with 6+ years of work experience in internal communications, journalism, or marketing in a consumer or customer facing company
  • Record of results securing positive media coverage using solid media relationships
  • Strong AP/writing skills
  • Experience building an internal communications program from the ground up, or moving an already existing internal communications program to the next level
  • A skilled storyteller who enjoys translating the hard work of our team into words and visuals.
  • Expertise in creative platforms - including visual & multimedia - as effective communications tools
  • Ability to think outside of the box to enhance engagement with creative communication strategies that include immersive and/or interactive communication models, where applicable
  • Ability to create structure in ambiguous fast-moving environments
  • US work authorization
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time

Compensation: $150,000- $230,000 (base + bonus)
